DR. STEPHEN LIBEN, PEDIATRIC PALLIATIVE CARE PHYSICIAN

As a doctor it must be difficult knowing that there's nothing you can do to save your patient's life. A palliative care physician is forced to let go of the basic impulse of a doctor. All they can do is try to make their patient's final days as best as they can.

Dr. Stephen Liben works with children who have terminal illnesses. It must be an enormous burden to know that you cannot save a child's life. I would guess that to get through your work day, you would have to learn to accept that fact. And that might be why he was drawn towards Buddhism.

His perspective on life and his work is deeply influenced by the Buddhist philosophy. And that was the main subject of this interview.
